Guest sentiment
A snapshot of what local diners frequently mention about this location.
"Really nice food, if a little heavy on the mashed potato’s which seem to come with all our dishes. Reasonably priced (£78 for three people. Two starters. Three mains and a bottle of red. ) Staff are lovely."
"Amazing pie of the week! We loved our meal at The Sun Hotel. There wasn’t a need to book and they allowed our puppy with us, as long as we ate in the bar. Very fair prices (especially for drinks!) and welcoming, down to earth staff. Made our first meal out on our holiday very special and memorable. Highly recommend. Thanks a million!"
"Highly recommended if you are visiting Llansantffraid ym Mechain - or in the vicinity. We had a delicious meal, and were served by a young man and woman who couldn't have been more attentive and pleasant. The food and wine were excellent. The hotel / bar / restaurant appear to have been recently refurbished in a manner in keeping with the lovely building, sympathetically retaining many of its fascinating historic features in a spotlessly clean, comfortable, modern setting. We had an evening meal on a Friday and felt that the place deserved to be full! Clearly a lot of work has gone into making the restaurant attractive and inviting. We hope it flourishes! Splendid food, fine service in a very pleasant setting - and a reasonably priced menu. Do give it a visit; snooze and you lose!"
"Stopped while travelling through. So glad we did! Wonderful, friendly staff. The food was amazing. Could not fault a thing. Flavours and presentation! We ordered the Ox cheek and lamb rump as well as the date pudding and lemon for dessert. We will definitely go back to the area just to stop again. We had been out walking at waterfalls in the area all day so we were not really appreciately dressed or clean but they welcomed us in and served us like royalty. Just loved everything about this place. The atmosphere and decor included. Highly recommended."
"Beautiful little pub. Brilliant helpful staff with great food and beer to boot. The hotel room pods are amazing and private."
"Beautiful place, but not another person was in there and that was Saturday lunchtime. So the atmosphere was non existent which was a shame. The steak and ale pie was OK, there wasn't much filling but the pie was good. But in my option it was over priced at £17, drinks on top."
"Yet again a wonderful meal in relaxed setting with lovely staff. The menu suits all palettes, I particularly love the fish which is always different and not the standard salmon/sea bass offering. Thanks so much all for making our 15th wedding anniversary so special. Will definitely be visiting again (soon) x"
"Stopped for lunch to break up the journey. Really friendly helpful landlord, pub is lovely and food is excellent, we had the barbecue chicken, perfectly cooked and loads of it. Overstayed by an hour! All very up to date including toilets. Would be a brilliant pub for functions, with local canal walks and the lime kiln park not too far away. Worth going out of your way to visit."
